2025-26 Recommendations

Throughout the 2025-26 school year, the Special Education Advisory Committee met regularly with stakeholders to identify gaps in family communication and support. Through this collaborative process, the committee developed practical resources and recommendations designed to make the special education experience more accessible and navigable for families.

Guide for Parents: Navigating the Special Education Process

  • A complete, step-by-step guide outlining the evaluation and IEP process has been developed for posting on the ASD20 Special Education webpages.

  • A corresponding flyer is ready for distribution in all ASD20 school main offices, counseling offices and Special Education resource departments.

One-Page Overview of the Parent Rights Handbook

  • A concise, accessible summary of the full 47-page Parent Rights Handbook has been created.

  • This summary is designed to accompany the complete handbook and support parent understanding.

Family Guide for Transitioning Students

  • Families will be provided with the transition planning timeline through multiple access points, including the district website.

Our recommendations may appear simple, but we believe they will strengthen relationships, support more informed educational decisions and ultimately contribute to greater student success.
