Kindergarten
Benefits of Kindergarten
The skills and knowledge learned leads to increased school success, healthier relationships and heightened emotional wellness.
Kindergarten also provides early and strong foundations for literacy and math. These foundations are the most significant predictors of future academic achievement. Similarly, children who attended high-quality kindergarten programs are less likely to be retained a grade and are more likely to graduate from high school.
Additional benefits of kindergarten include:
Learning safe risk-taking, which develops confidence and independence
Becoming part of a team and learning to problem solve
Fine-tuning their executive functioning skills such as: self-control, regulating emotions, memory, cognitive flexibility, organization, self-reflection, and focus
Making connections and friendships
Exploring curiosities and expand personal experiences which provides context for future learning
Register for Kindergarten
To register for kindergarten, students must be five years old on or before Oct. 1 of the upcoming school year.
Families living within Academy District 20 boundaries must register.
Families living within Academy District 20 boundaries who'd like their student to attend kindergarten at a school other than their neighborhood school, or families who live outside of Academy District 20 boundaries, must register and complete the School Choice process.
Kindergarten Information Sessions
Each January and February we hold Kindergarten Information Sessions where families can meet school representatives and start the registration process for the next academic year of kindergarten.
