Work Based Learning
Work-based learning (WBL) is a continuum of activities that occur, in part or in whole, in the workplace, providing the learner with hands-on, real-world experiences. It combines skill development through Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs with training opportunities and is a key strategy in Academy School District 20 for developing talent and preparing district students for the workforce and evolving labor market. WBL programs are instrumental in delivering quality career pathways that enable students and job seekers to secure industry-relevant skills, certifications, and credentials and advance to higher levels of education and employment.
Each district high school has a dedicated Work-Based Learning Liaison who can assist high school students with seeking and pursuing work and internship opportunities. In addition to district and site-based work-based learning opportunities, District 20 partners with Pikes Peak Business and Education Alliance (PPBEA) to help students explore and navigate work-based learning opportunities within the Pikes Peak region.
