The team was nominated by Rachel Lake, affective needs (AN) specialist for the district who works closely with the Academy Endeavour CARE Team. The decision was made at the end of the 2018-19 school year to place an affective needs center-based program for students with emotional and behavioral disabilities at AEES. “I was astounded at the willingness of staff and the speed at which the team was organized,” said Lake. “The nine non-AN staff members went through training and adjusted their schedules and job duties to be part of this important team.”
Along with training, the team met weekly in the fall to practice and tighten up their team responses. “They have been called upon on a regular basis during the school day to drop whatever they’re doing and respond to urgent calls for support,” added Lake. “They have been stretched, pushed and grown in ways they did not necessarily expect when they became educators, and they have risen to the occasion. They are the essence of what it means to be a team.”
