Blended Learning in Academy District 20

What is Blended Learning?
"Blended learning is any time a student learns at least in part at a supervised brick-and-mortar location away from home and at least in part through online delivery with some element of student control over time, place, path and/or pace."
- Heather Staker (2011), The rise of K-12 Blended Learning: Profiles of Emerging Models
What does Blended Learning look like in Academy District 20?
Using an online content management tool, such as ALEC (see Online Learning section) or Desire2Learn (AOHS), many teachers in Academy District 20 provide resources, discussion boards, quizzes, and content delivery as an integrated component to their classroom instruction. The degree to which these techniques are employed is reflected in the illustration below, with most teachers falling in the green area (Web Facilitated / Flipped Classes). In addition, many professional development opportunities in ASD20 are moving to models which fall into the yellow (Synchronous with Asynchronous Class) or orange (Touchstone Classes) areas of the spectrum.
