December’s SEAC meeting included feedback from D20’s sped information night and a review progress on the Special Education Workgroup 1st quarter agenda.

  • SEAC is an advisory committee and not an advocacy group

Sped information night feedback:

  • About 40 people in attendance with 114 RSVPs

  • What topics might draw more parents to come?  Behavior, Autism, Project search, etc.

  • Have we asked parents what they want to hear about? How can we involve parents?

  • Can Peak Parent help with parent involvement?

  • Can there be an online option?

Special Education Workgroup updates:

  • Department restructuring- eliminated several compliance facilitators.

  • T.E. calculation, currently working with HR

  • Job fair in fall and spring. Special Education is always recruiting

  • Handbook- If you have not received yours by September 1, let us know.

  • All staff read and signed that they had read Procedural Safeguards through Workday.

  • External website has been cleaned and updated.

  • On-going trainings to sped staff are offered and everyone is invited, including general education staff.

  • All Sped updates occur once every month. It is an online meeting that typically lasts 25-30 minutes.

  • Sped staff is criticized more than they are acknowledged.

To-Do list:

  • Program guidance has been updated. Sped administrators attend all level principal meetings to communicate updates as well as principal advisory groups every month. Staff train on requests from principals.

  • Providing substitutes for paraeducator trainings is great and meaningful. Could this happen before the school year starts?

  • Resource Program review is coming up in February

Important Dates

We have 2 remaining SEAC meetings for the year.  All meetings are held at the EAC from 5:00-6:30pm.  As a reminder, Teams is an available option for participation.
