Welcome to Discovery Canyon!

Discovery Canyon Campus is located at 1810 North Gate Boulevard on 84 acres in the Flying Horse development, south and east of Old North Gate Road.  The choice theme for the Pre Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade Campus is science/ mathematics, integrating space and aviation sciences.

Mission  

The mission of Discovery Canyon Campus, a pre-K-12 learning community focused on science and mathematics integration, is to educate and inspire all students to achieve social, emotional, physical, and academic success as internationally minded citizens through a comprehensive inquiry-based curriculum with real-life global applications taught in a purposefully designed environment.

Learning Opportunities

The Discovery Canyon Campus curriculum and co/extra-curricular programs are designed to provide a wide range and variety of experiences to engage students' learning opportunities. 

Needs-based offerings featuring experiential learning, problem-based curriculum opportunities, and self-directed learning investigations will complement traditional curriculum.

Students are provided multiple opportunities to assume stewardship responsibilities for the Discovery Canyon Campus land, wildlife, and campus environment.

Centralized Campus Services

As a convenience for parents and patrons, Discovery Canyon Campus provides centralized Campus Services.  Services such as Attendance, Health Center, Counseling, and Business Services are located in an area convenient to all students, staff and parents just inside the Middle Campus entrance.

Educational Benefits

Enhanced Communication:

  • Students and Staff are provided the opportunity to dialogue and discuss as a result of proximity and common focus.
  • Many of our facilities are shared by multiple grade levels.

International Baccalaureate (IB) instructional methodologies and strategies used by all staff:

  • All staff trained on inquiry based instruction.
  • All students will receive the benefits of the International Baccalaureate instruction in grades PK-10. Students in grade 11 choosing to qualify for the IB Diploma (DP) will have additional requirements.

Multiple World Languages available throughout the campus

  • French is the primary language offered in grades PK-5.
  • French and Spanish are both offered as  world languages at Discovery Canyon.

The Exploratory/Elective curriculum of Discovery Canyon Campus, called "Discovery Classes",  is designed not only to provide a wide range and variety of experiences, but also to engage students in Extended Learning Opportunities (ELO's) and application of content based skills. Offerings feature traditional curriculum, experiential learning, problem based curriculum opportunities, and self-directed learning.

Seamless Transitions and opportunities for academic interactions stemming from teaching staff discussions, dialogue, and common expectations.

A Connected Continuum of curriculum experiences resulting from common agreement of instructional experiences for students at designated grade levels.

The Availability for students to stretch, expand, and enrich learning experiences matched to their abilities through access to higher level academic and performance opportunities.

Enhanced Academic instructional expertise for all teachers as a byproduct of collegial, collaborative and content focused professional peer interactions with higher grade level subject matter specialists.

Enhanced Sense of family and community as a result of the Campus design and common Campus activities, supported by the separate and distinct identity of each level-based program (elementary, middle, secondary).

Planned Positive Peer interactions and mentor relationships supported by research-based evidence.

Careful Attention to issues and concerns of safety commonly perceived to occur when interactions among school-aged peers of wide age differences take place.
